BASG becomes WHO Listed Authority
After a review process lasting almost a year, the WHO decided on 14.05.2024 to include the European network of EU and EEA medicines authorities, of which the Federal Office for Safety in Health Care is an essential and active part, as a recognized "regional entity" in the list of WHO Listed Authorities (WLA) for human medicines and vaccines.
This means worldwide recognition as part of medicinal product authorities that operate at an advanced level of performance. The assessment was carried out using the WHO's Performance Evaluation and Global Benchmarking Tools.
The self-assessment was coordinated by the Benchmarking of European Medicines Agencies Steering Group (BEMA SG). An employee of AGES MEA was significantly involved in this process for the BASG as a peer reviewer of the pan-European self-assessment as well as the evidence to be submitted by the EMA and the medicines authorities of all 30 EU/EEA member states.
