Braille on the outer packaging

According to the Medicines Act (§ 17 (5) AMG)the name and strength of a medicine must be indicated in Braille on the outer packaging.

Exceptions to this are:

  • registered homeopathic medicines
  • medicines that are used exclusively by doctors or medically trained personnel (e.g. vaccines, infusion solutions).

The application of adhesive labels with Braille in pharmacies or chemists is not recommended.

Package Leaflets  for visually impaired persons

According to the Medicines Act (§ 16c (1) AMG) the manufacturer or the person who registered the medicine must, upon request, provide the instructions for use in a form that can be used by blind or visually impaired persons (e.g. in suitable formats).
