WNV Italian - Update
The Federal Office for Public Health has been informed by the Italian authority that, in addition to the regions already mentioned, the ID WNV NAT testing for blood and blood component donations has now been introduced in the provinces of Rovigo and Verona (Veneto), and in the provinces of Varese and Monza Brianza (Lombardy), due to the detection of WNV positive mosquito pools and WNV positive birds respectively.
In addition, there was a human case in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (Piedmont), which is why ID WNV NAT testing was also introduced in this region. Nationwide in Italy, donors who have stayed at least one night in the mentioned region are excluded from donation for 28 days.
We therefore ask you to pay attention to this in the anamnesis interviews and donor selection.
