WNV Italian - Update
The Federal Office for Safety in Health Care was informed by the Italian authority that in the provinces of Bologna, Modena, Ferrara, Reggio Emilia, Parma (Emilia-Romagna region) and in the province of Bergamo (Lombardy region), due to the detection of WNV NAT positive mosquito pools, ID WNV NAT testing was introduced for donations of blood and blood components.
In addition, in the Province of Padua (Veneto Region), due to the detection of a WNV NAT positive bird, ID WNV NAT testing for blood and blood component donations was also introduced. Nationwide in Italy, donors who have stayed at least one night in the mentioned region are excluded from donation for 28 days. We therefore ask you to pay attention to this in the anamnesis interviews and donor selection.
