WNV Italian - Update
The Federal Office for Safety in Health Care was informed by the Italian authority that in the provinces of Milan and Pavia (Lombardy region), due to the detection of WNV NAT positive mosquito pools, the ID WNV NAT testing for donations of blood and blood components was introduced.
In addition, in the province of Turin (Piedmont Region), due to a bird tested positive by WNV NAT, ID WNV NAT testing was also introduced for donations of blood and blood components. Nationwide in Italy, donors who have stayed at least one night in the mentioned region are excluded from donation for 28 days.
We therefore ask for appropriate attention in the anamnesis interviews and donor selection.
