The Federal Office for Safety in Health Care has been informed by the ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) that 474 human WNV infections have already been recorded in Italy, during the current season. 28 deaths have been reported related to WNV infections. New affected regions are: Trapani and Varese.
Therefore, appropriate attention is requested in medical history discussions and donor selections. This letter corresponds to the current information status of the BASG. As soon as further information is available, it will be announced.
