The Federal Office for Safety in Health Care has been informed by the Italian authority that in the province of Sondrio (Lombardy) the ID WNV NAT testing for donations of blood and blood components has been introduced due to the detection of WNV positive birds. Nationwide in Italy, donors who have stayed at least one night in the indicated region are excluded from donation for 28 days.
We therefore ask you to pay attention to this in the anamnesis discussions and donor selection.
This letter corresponds to the current information status of the BASG. As soon as further information is available, it will be announced.
