The Federal Office for Safety in Health Care was informed by the Italian authority that in the provinces of Lodi, Mantova, Brescia (Region of Lombardy) as well as in the province of Piacenza (Region of Emilia-Romagna), due to the detection of WNV NAT positive mosquito pools, the ID WNV NAT testing was introduced for donations of blood and blood components.
Nationwide in Italy, donors who have stayed at least one night in the mentioned region are excluded from donation for 28 days. We therefore ask you to pay attention to this in the anamnesis discussions and donor selection.
This letter corresponds to the current information status of the BASG. As soon as further information is available, it will be announced.
