Update: West Nile Virus (WNV) - Italy
The Federal Office for Safety in Health Care was informed by the ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) that in Italy, during the current season, a total of 144 human WNV infections were recorded. Ten deaths have been reported related to WNV infections.
Affected regions are: Vercelli, Novara, Lodi, Piacenza, Parma, Reggio nell'Emilia, Modena, Mantova, Brescia, Verona, Padova, Venezia, Rovigo, Ferrara, Ravenna, Treviso, Torino, Asti, Cremona, Bologna and Pordenone. In addition, birds and horses tested positive for WNV NAT.
Therefore, appropriate attention in case history discussions and donor selections is requested. This letter corresponds to the current information status of the BASG. As soon as further information is available, it will be announced.
